St Mary's is an Open Church - Open to God, Open to You
Share what YOU are doing while in lock-down! We are sharing information on what people are doing while staying at home, with photos where possible! Maybe some of us are doing things we don't usually get around to or haven't done for a while or maybe we're trying something new. Please get your contributions to Chris Bromley . Sue G writes - Hannah entered a competition run by Burnley FC and Farmhouse Biscuits and was announced as the winner on Friday in a Tweet from the club. She’s won a year’s supply of Oat Flips! Not sure when they’re going to start arriving. The photo is of Hannah’s prize winning gingerbread men, Sean Dyche and Ashley Westwood.

Val S has refurbished two garden sheds. She says:
One is a small office and the other is a yoga studio. The idea was to clear out my sheds and refurbish using only things I had to hand. Each shed has had additional bits of wood screwed to it where it was becoming a bit worn (they are approx. 40 years old) and two coats of Ronseal wood preservative in slate grey (already purchased last year for this precise purpose but not got around to). The inside of the sheds were painted using leftover emulsion used in the house. The yoga shed was also wallpapered to make it look more tranquil using wall paper I found in the garage. The Laura Ashley carpet was also found in the garage and the bean bag was found in the loft. The upright chair was found in the garage and stripped, polished and a new seat cover made from left over fabric. As you can imagine this work took several days to complete and gave me the impetus to move on to other projects. All fences are now repaired and painted and altogether the back garden looks very smart. However, the garage is now full of the rubbish from the sheds which is awaiting transportation to the tip whenever it reopens!
PS My 13 year old granddaughter, Thea, painted the sunshine sign and the large flower picture
Congratulations to Trish Hall
Marathon Runner - 5 hours and 5 minutes
Trish had been training to run a marathon. This was cancelled but Trish put her practice to good use and ran a personal marathon at a local school on TUESDAY 5 MAY to support a small, St Albans charity - Up on Downs. St Mary's included this charity in our annual tithe in 2019. It would be good if people felt able to support Trish.
The Vicar writes : The Archbishops have lifted their ban on Clergy using their own churches. So today I’ve said Mattins and will shortly offer the Eucharist in St Mary’s for the first time in many weeks. You’ll also see from the photograph that I’m using the hall lockdown to scrub the tables. Next will come the chairs and finally the floor. If I’m cleaning my house, then I’ll clean God’s too! God bless, Love, Fr Grant
Julia Abrey - sings with Classical Chorus. 130 members from Hertfordshire’s ‘Classical Chorus,’ (a non-auditioned community choir specialising in choral singing), continue to rehearse virtually, despite lockdown. Nothing will stop their love of singing together! Here they perform a socially-distanced rendition of ‘You'll never walk alone’ in tribute to the , doctors, nurses, health care workers and other incredible key workers.
Watch the video and see if you can spot Julia!
